Hechi resort named national ICH, tourism integration project

Cotton Sinkhole Tourism Resort in Luocheng Mulam autonomous county, Hechi was recently selected as a national project for the integration of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) items and tourism development, being the only one on the list in Guangxi.

A total of 200 projects made the list of national projects for the integration of ICH items and tourism development in 2022, covering ICH tourism scenic spots, towns, blocks, as well as villages.

Cotton Sinkhole Tourism Resort is located in Shendong village, Sizhu town, and is 350 kilometers away from Nanning, 105 km away from Liuzhou, as well as 146 km away from Guilin. It is a cultural tourism poverty-alleviation project that was launched by the Luocheng county people's government in 2017, with an investment of 320 million yuan ($44 million). Developed and built by Guangxi Yuetou Group, it covers an area of more than 2,000 mu (133 hectares), while boasting such popular sites as a Mulam characteristic village, a Mulam traditional Chinese medicine experience hall, an ICH exhibition hall, as well as Changsheng Cave Scenic Area.

The tourism resort has received 300,000 visitors annually, drawing more than 1 million visitors since its opening in April 2019, as well as driving 6,849 people in seven villages out of poverty.
