Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has been making efforts to improve its competence in formulating industry standards in recent years.

The measurement and characterization of the additive manufacturing of metal powder bed melt process parts surface structure, which was compiled by the Wuxi Institute of Inspection, Testing and Certification, recently received approval from provincial authorities.

Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, is considered to be the key technology driving the third industrial revolution.

Wuxi is currently home to over 50 additive manufacturing businesses, and their products have been widely used in the biomedical and aviation industries.

"Such an approval will help boost the technological progress and the right of speech in the additive manufacturing industry in Wuxi," said Bao Jun, director of the National Additive Manufacturing Product Quality Inspection and Testing Center.

He noted that the measurement and characterization is also a supplement to the existing standardization system of the additive manufacturing industry, offering an effective technical evaluation basis.

The internet of vehicles is a crucial part of the Digital Wuxi construction, and recently the first part of the Guide to the Construction of Intelligent Connected Road Infrastructure compiled by Wuxi enterprises was published, becoming the first municipal-level standard in intelligent connected road construction in China.

Since 2020, Wuxi has led the formulation and revision of eight international standards and 33 national, industry, provincial and municipal standards.

This year, the city published two local standards for nucleic acid testing houses and electronic sentry, an online platform where people can inquire about COVID-19-related information.
