Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has been making efforts to develop a high-quality living environment and efficient transportation system over the past decade.

To date, the reconstruction of 50,800 temporary dwellings has commenced in the city and 22,000 households have moved out of their temporary dwellings into permanent homes.

The city has also renovated 661 old residential communities with a total area of nearly 27.9 million square meters over the past 10 years, benefiting over 380,000 households.

In addition, 494 renewed communities, which used to be unattended, are now managed by State-owned property service companies.

From 2012 to 2021, Wuxi invested about 80 billion yuan ($11.83 billion) into transportation infrastructure, including four subway lines with a combined operating mileage of 111.2 kilometers.

The city has also reconstructed or established 548 public restrooms in urban areas and 739 public restrooms in rural areas and improved the environments of 556 backstreets since 2012.

This year, Wuxi published a three-year action plan in a bid to become the cleanest city in the country, said Zhu Shuangqing, deputy director of the Wuxi city administration bureau.

Over the next three years, the city will focus on the improvement of old infrastructure, general urban aesthetic, natural environment, and greenery, according to the plan.
