The government of Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality has been seeking to improve its work in industrial development, sci-tech innovation, reforms and opening-up, regional coordination, city construction and Party construction.
Aiming for a high-end, intelligent and green development trajectory, Liangjiang has combined the upgrading of traditional industries with the prosperity of strategic emerging businesses, with its major industries – intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) and new energy vehicles (NEVs), high-end equipment, biomedicine, new materials, and new-type energy storage – being further developed, and its modern service industrial system being supported by culture, tourism, research, design, trade, logistics, and modern exhibitions.
Over the first half of 2022, Chongqing's NEV retail sales were 1.6 times more than the same period last year, largely due to the contributions made by the new area, which sold 69,000 NEVs, a year-on-year increase of 365.7 percent. Meanwhile, Liangjaing's ICV market penetration rate reached 35 percent, 17 percentage points higher than the national average.
The output values of the electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and biomedicine industries stood at 109.75 billion yuan ($16.22 billion), 14.34 billion yuan, and 4.31 billion yuan, respectively.
In addition, the number of technology companies in the new area surged by 322 to 3,651. Three new makerspaces have also opened.
Meanwhile, the pivotal port project of Guoyuan port was completed, with a total investment of 10.5 billion yuan. It included the construction of sixteen 5,000-metric-ton berths, 14 port-railway routes, a 180,000–square-meter storage area, and a 150,000-sq-m area for port inspection facilities.
In the first six months, the China-Europe freight train (Chengdu-Chongqing), new land-sea corridor, and Shanghai-Chongqing express line made 360 trips, 204 trips and 595 trips, respectively. Foreign trade in this period also grew by 17.9 percent to 160.2 billion yuan.
