The research and development center of Knorr-Bremse Group in China and its production base started operating in Suzhou New District on Aug 10.

The R&D center specializes in self driving, intelligent turning, chassis, and transmission control technology for commercial vehicles and will establish a team of nearly 300 researchers.

The production base is expected to manufacture control systems for electric powered hydraulic steering and automatic gearboxes for commercial vehicles.

Knorr-Bremse Group inked an agreement with SND on the same day to further their strategic cooperation in high-end innovative resources, intelligent manufacturing, and localization of technological achievements.

The group and the Suzhou campus of Nanjing University agreed to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence image algorithms and other sci-tech fields as well as the cultivation of high-caliber talent.

The Munich-based Knorr-Bremse Group is the world's leading manufacturer of braking systems and supplier of additional sub-systems for rail and commercial vehicles. In 2020, the group reported sales of nearly $6.38 billion and employed some 29,700 people worldwide.

Since 2004, Knorr-Bremse has set up five subsidiary companies, which have a combined workforce of 1,500, in SND, making it the group's largest investment destination outside of Munich.
