KABUL -- A ceremony was held in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Sunday to inaugurate China-funded teaching building and auditorium at Kabul University.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu, Acting Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan's Taliban-led caretaker government Abdul Baqi Haqqani, and Kabul University Rector Osama Aziz attended the inauguration ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Wang said the modern teaching building, funded by the Chinese government for the university, has been completed within five years, which is a symbol of bilateral cooperation in the field of education.

China has had extensive and in-depth cooperation with Afghanistan in education, he said.

At present, thousands of Afghan students are studying in China and nearly 200 local students are enrolled at the Confucius Institute of Kabul University, the ambassador added.

China will continue to provide support and assistance to Afghanistan and expand cooperation in various fields, including education, as it did in the past, he said.

Haqqani expressed gratitude to China for assisting the construction of the infrastructure at Kabul University.

He said Afghanistan has just emerged from the quagmire of years of wars and is now facing new tasks such as economic development and social reconstruction.

He said he hopes that China would continue providing aid to Afghanistan in the future and carry out more cooperation with Afghanistan in the field of education.

Aziz said Kabul University is deeply grateful for China's long-term assistance and support.

The teaching building and auditorium will be used for graduate students to receive good education, and the infrastructure will contribute to cooperation between Afghanistan and China, he said.
