Industrial enterprises in Wuxi, East China's Jiangsu province, have been accelerating eco-friendly development.

Statistics from the city's industry and information technology bureau show that as of May, the city houses 19 State-level green factories, and 24 products made in Wuxi have been identified as green design products by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In 2021, the industrial output of green factories at the provincial level or above totaled 260 billion yuan ($38.8 billion), and those same factories reused 2.5 million metric tons of industrial solid waste.

Wuxi published a three-year action plan this year to boost digital transformation and reduce the operating costs, energy consumption, and carbon dioxide emissions of local manufacturing enterprises.

Since then, an increasing number of manufacturing enterprises have joined the eco-friendly development boom.

For example, the Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel Works Co Ltd started recovering waste heat, optimizing its combustion system, and generating power with solar photovoltaics, and has upgraded its workshops to achieve ultra-low emissions.

Wang Yongjian, deputy general manager of Xingcheng, said that their factory's emissions of particulate matter, nitric oxide, and sulfur dioxide have been reduced by 18.9 percent, 58.3 percent, and 62.2 percent, respectively.

In recent years, Wuxi has improved its green finance-related policies and encouraged more financial institutions to invest in green projects.

A total of 800 million yuan in loans have been issued to the city's eco-friendly projects, and the city also saw the issuance of its first green bond with a total financing scale of 650 million yuan.
