The 2022 China Taihu International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition launched by Wuxi in February received 5,711 entries before the deadline, up 8 percent year-on-year.

Nearly 70 percent of this year's participants graduated from elite schools, including Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Peking University, and Tsinghua University.

More than 1,600 founders of this year's entrepreneurial teams hold a doctor's degree and over 1,700 participants have studied or worked overseas.

"Starting businesses in Wuxi has become popular among high-end talent and teams in particular fields," said a representative of the organizing committee.

He added that there are increasingly more participants from first-tier Chinese cities and foreign countries and most of the entries have mature products and technologies.

According to the organizing committee, the competition areas in Japan and South Korea focus on introducing cutting-edge technologies and international teams.

Among the international entries, 95 possess authorized patents and involve the city's key industrial fields, including new-generation information technology, biological medicine, new energy and metaverse.

The roadshow for the quarter-final competition is scheduled to take place in late June.

The competition is sponsored by the talent work office of the CPC Wuxi Municipal Committee and Wuxi municipal bureau of science and technology.
