A laser industry alliance under the title of G60 Science and Innovation Corridor was established in Suzhou New District on June 16, local media outlets reported.

Soochow University will serve as the alliance's secretary general, while Suzhou Everbright Photonics Co, a domestic leading laser chip manufacturer, will serve as first chairman. More than 500 enterprises and research institutes have joined the alliance.

The alliance is planning to closely follow the Yangtze River Delta Regional Integration Development Plan Outline and G60 Science and Innovation Corridor Development Plan.

By targeting world-leading scientific innovation capabilities and industrial layouts, the alliance is expected to boost YRD's laser industrial transformation and upgrading and coordinated development and elevate the controllability and modernization of laser industrial chains and supply chains.

A team of experts consisting of academicians and scholars in the field of laser research was also established and will be led by Zhu Shining, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Wu Xinhua, an academician from the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering.

They will take full advantage of their expertise, further integrate high-quality resources, strive to realize key technological breakthroughs in industrial upgrading, accelerate the commercialization of sci-tech achievements, and help Suzhou construct industrial innovation clusters in the digital economy era.

The G60 Science and Innovation Corridor was first proposed by Shanghai's Songjiang district government in 2016. It refers to a high-tech industry zone spanning nine cities alongside either the G60 expressway or the rail line winding all the way from Shanghai to the Anhui provincial capital of Hefei.

Located in the Yangtze River Delta region, the nine cities include Shanghai municipality, the cities of Jiaxing, Hangzhou, Jinhua, and Huzhou in Zhejiang province, the city of Suzhou in Jiangsu province, and the cities of Xuancheng, Wuhu, and Hefei in Anhui province.
