Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province plans to invest about 300 million yuan ($44.55 million) in the construction of 300 new energy vehicle charging stations over the following three years, local media reported on May 25.

This year, the city will build nearly 100 such charging stations.

Among all the downtown districts in Wuxi, Liangxi and Xinwu districts will have the largest number of NEV charging stations.

Construction of nearly 30 NEV charging stations in the two districts commenced this month, each of which contains six charging piles for 12 vehicles. The charging piles are fast-charging, requiring less half to increase an NEV vehicle's charge from 20 percent to 80 percent.

Wuxi will establish another 2,050 public charging piles this year to give residents of the downtown area access to public charging facilities within a distance of 0.9 kilometers from any location.

In addition, other services will be available at the NEV charging stations.

For example, the charging station on Hanjiang Road in Xinwu district became the first in the city to offer automatic external defibrillators, while the charging station at the South Square of Wuxi Railway Station offers drinking water.
