The Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games will be held from June 26 to July 7 in Sichuan province following its postponement due to the pandemic.

University athletes are expected to compete in 269 medal events across 18 sports, the Ministry of Education said in a news conference on Friday, marking the 100-day countdown to the Games.

Under the slogan of 'Chengdu Makes Dream Come True', the Games' mascot is a panda named Rongbao. The city is known as the home of pandas.

Chengdu has built 13 new venues and renovated 36 existing ones, with all construction work completed in April last year. The Chengdu 2021 Universiade Village is at Chengdu University, and covers an area of 80 hectares.

The Games will adopt strict closed loop management to ensure the health of the athletes, officials and safety of the venues.

Chengdu dates back 2,300 years and has a population of over 21 million. It is home to 1.1 million university students, including over 10,000 international students.

The city won the right to host the biennial event in March 2019. This will be the third time that China has hosted the Summer Universiade since Beijing in 2001 and Shenzhen in 2011.
