Wang Yan, a National People's Congress (NPC) deputy from the coastal city of Yantai in East China's Shandong province called for more new energy vehicle (NEV) charging piles to be built in communities, in order to promote the healthy development of the country's NEV industry.

Wang submitted the suggestion at this year's two sessions, the annual meetings of the country's top legislative and advisory bodies, which kicked off in Beijing on March 5.

Wang, chairwoman of the labor union of Yantai Yazaki Automotive Parts Company, said that China's NEV industry is developing rapidly, and the production and sales volume has ranked first globally for seven years in a row. Pure electric vehicles have become the mainstream sales of vehicles. Wang's company has followed the market trend and increased the production of NEV wire harnesses through industrial upgrading and transformation.

Wang also called for more policy support to accelerate the construction of a high-power fast-charging infrastructure for NEVs. The charging infrastructure plays an important role for the development of the NEV industry, and the country should extend coverage of vehicle-charging infrastructure in communities, which will accelerate the sales of green vehicles, and foster a green and low-carbon way of transport.
