Silk works designed by embroiderers from Suzhou New District in East China's Jiangsu province to celebrate the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games have harmoniously integrated art and sports, local media outlets reported.

Artist Lu Meihong and her daughter Yu Zhujun have designed three kinds of fans featuring double-sided embroidery, with one side showing the emblem of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the other side featuring classical bird-and-flower paintings.

"Su Embroidery is gentle and elegant, while the Winter Olympics is dynamic and passionate. This interesting contrast precisely reflects the richness and diversity of Chinese culture, inspiring me to create many more," Lu said.

Yao Qinhua's connections with the Winter Olympics started in 2020 when her team was entrusted by the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology to assist in the research and design of racing suits for figure skaters.

It took Yao and her team two years to create the design of the racing suits, which needs not only blend well with the dance and music, but also fit each skater's figure and character.

An embroidery masterpiece showing girls playing cuju (ancient Chinese football) was recently collected by the Beijing Olympic Museum. The designer is Yao Jianping, who is known as the top inheritor of Suzhou Embroidery. The masterpiece was gifted by President Xi Jinping to the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach during a visit to the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland on Jan 18, 2017.
