Guangzhou's Huangpu district will open 55 additional roads, spanning a total length of 114 kilometers, for the testing of intelligent connected vehicles.

To date, Huangpu has opened 90 roads for such tests, which span 156 km in length, the most of its kind in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A total of 102 road intersections and sections in the district are equipped with 1,318 artificial intelligence sensing devices, as well as 89 V2X roadside communication units that allow for a holographic perception of traffic signs and vehicles.

These smart roads have laid a solid foundation for the scaled operation of autonomous vehicles in Huangpu. The RoboTaxis of autonomous driving start-up WeRide have served more than 180,000 passengers over the past two years.

Tech giant Baidu has deployed more than 100 autonomous passenger vehicles, buses, sweepers, distribution vehicles, and security vehicles in Guangzhou Science City, China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, Guangzhou International Bio Island, as well as Changzhou Island.

Baidu's five autonomous driving bus routes have set up 276 stations near office buildings, residences, business circles, metro stations, and parks across the district to maximize the public benefits of smart city construction.
