GDD seminar spotlights megacity governance

A seminar on global economic development and megacity governance was held in Guangzhou Development District (GDD) recently.

Guangzhou is one of the seven domestic megacities, which are prominent in its economic and population scale. However, they are also faced with various challenges in the process of urban modernization. 

A large number of experts and scholars were invited to share their latest research results and experiences to push forward the modernization of Guangzhou's urban governance.

Shen Tiyan, executive president of Peking University's Institute of Urban Governance, proposed the establishment of a public service system that can respond to people's demands accurately, as well as a smart platform for urban management.

Zheng Yongnian, director general of a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area research institute in Guangzhou, said that the urban governance of Greater Bay Area should pay attention to the connection of rules between different cities and push forward institutional reform.

Zhu Chunkui, a professor at Fudan University's School of International Relations and Public Affairs, noted that the government should accelerate its digital transformation, as well as improve people's wellbeing through digital economy development and smart city construction.
