The first phase of a 500-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) power generation project developed by Huangpu enterprise Hengyun in Haiyan town, Taishan, Guangdong, came into operation on Dec 28.

With a total investment of 2.16 billion yuan ($339 million), the project covers an area of around 6,500 mu (433.33 hectares). It features a comprehensive integration of clean energy power generation, modern fishery, and agricultural sightseeing. Between rows of solar panels, local farmers breed the fish and shrimps to increase land utilization.

Hengyun launches the first phase of a 500-megawatt PV power generation project in Taishan's Haiyan town on Dec 28.

Once the project is fully operational, it is expected to generate 543 million kilowatt hours annually and provide more than 1,000 jobs. It is able to cut the emissions of carbon dioxide by 534,000 metric tons, sulfur dioxide by 16,000 tons, and nitrogen oxide by 8,000 tons. This is equivalent to planting trees in 20 percent of Haiyan's lands.

Hengyun, the project developer, is a State-owned energy enterprise in Huangpu district. It is committed to the development of the green energy sector in recent years, which echoes China's goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality before 2060.
