South China's Hainan province grabbed the top two spots in a ranking of health tourism issued at this year's China Culture and Tourism Summit Forum. Its Haikou and Sanya cities took first and third place, respectively. Southwest China's municipality Chongqing came in second.
"Health tourism" as used here means people traveling to achieve a natural and harmonious state physically, mentally and spiritually by taking part in various activities.
This study is based on a comprehensive evaluation index for Chinese cities to assess their health tourism. The system looks at the ecological, medical, economic environment, and the development environment for health tourism.
