Five-year goals have been set for the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, according to a government report released on Dec 7.

The WHDZ will strive to develop a higher-level modern industrial system in the five-year period with automobile manufacturing, electronics and electrical appliances, and food and beverage serving as its three advantageous industries.

The development zone will vigorously promote the three strategic industries of intelligent networked vehicles, new energy, and new materials.

Financial institutions will play an indispensable role in attracting major businesses and investments, developing pillar industries, and promoting industrial upgrading.

Relying on leading enterprises, the WHDZ will make every effort to create high-level innovation platforms such as the National Technology Innovation Center and the National Industrial Innovation Center, and build a higher-level scientific and technological innovation system.

Efforts will also be made to build an open market system and expand the cross-border e-commerce industry in the WHDZ's comprehensive bonded zone.

Furthermore, the urban spatial layout of the development zone will be further optimized, and urban and industrial planning will be scientifically coordinated in the next five years.
