The burning question beneath the 'blood moon'

On Nov 19, Earth dwellers will witness our moon turn red, orange and brown in the longest partial lunar eclipse of the century. But about 2 billion years ago, the moon was consistently hot, bright and full of volcanic activity.

Nobody knows how the moon could stay this way for so long, making it one of the hottest questions under the moon's serene surface.
