With a planned area of 284 square kilometers, Qingdao Dongjiakou Economic Zone is divided into three parts - Port Zone, Port-front Industrial Zone and New Port City.

The Port Zone has a planned area of 72 sq km and is able to accommodate 112 berths capable of handling a yearly throughput of 370 million tons in bulk materials and cargo after completion. It was rated as a national first-class port and aims to become a fourth-generation port for logistics and trade and a shipping hub in northeast Asia.

The Port-front Industrial Zone has a planned area of 91 sq km and is a national demonstration zone for circular economy. It focuses on the development of "four industrial clusters" - each with an annual output value exceeding 100 billion yuan ($15.68 billion) - high-end equipment manufacturing, new chemical materials, grain, oil and cold chain, and wood deep processing, as part of an effort to build itself into an advanced manufacturing base of Qingdao and a provincial eco-friendly high-end chemical industrial park. The New Port City has a planned area of 121 sq km and aims to become a dynamic, happy and livable modern city.
