Forty-one international students studying in Dalian, Liaoning province, visited an oceanic ranch in Changhai county on Friday as part of a three-day “Experience China, Explore Dalian, Amazing Changhai” international student social practice and cultural experience activity.

They experienced how local fishermen breed abalone, sea urchins, oysters and seaweed.

The students come from 25 countries. They are studying at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics as well as Dalian Jiaotong University.

Located at 13 degrees north latitude in the northern part of the Yellow Sea, Changhai county faces the Korean Peninsula to the east.

The county, which consists of 195 islands, is famous for high-quality seafood.

It boasts the country’s largest oceanic ranch and largest breeding base for precious seafood including abalone, sea urchins, and trepangs — a kind of precious sea cucumber.

“Experience China, Explore Dalian, Amazing Changhai” activity is sponsored by the China Scholarship Council and co-organized by the publicity department of the Dalian municipal Party committee and the DUFE. Since 2016, a total of 441 international students from nearly 50 countries have visited the city’s Jinpu New Area, Wafangdian, Zhuanghe and Changhai to experience local culture and social development.
