Chinese and international students from the School of Media and Communication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University recently participated in several field trips in Shanghai to learn about the city's development.

The students will work together to create short videos expressing views about the city following the trips that were organized by the school.

The first stop of the trip was the Shanghai Subway Museum where 11 teachers and students, including some from Japan and Ecuador, learned about the history of subway construction in Shanghai.

Liang Weijie, curator of the museum, introduced Shanghai and the world's development history of subways as well as related cultural projects during a panel discussion with the teachers and students.

A Japanese student said Shanghai's subway services are nice and convenient and the evolution of local subways also reflected the rapid development of the city.

An Ecuadorian student said that after listening to the stories behind Shanghai subways, the act of taking the subway has become a cultural experience rather than just a means of travel.

At the second stop, which was Qingcun town in Fengxian district in Shanghai, 10 teachers and students from countries like the United States and Argentina visited Wufang village, a demonstration village for rural revitalization.

There, they visited a creative agricultural and cultural products fair and communicated with college student entrepreneurs who funded the "Escaping the City" studio at a local entrepreneurship center. "I really admire the young entrepreneurs' life there," said a student.

The achievements of Wufang left a deep impression on a US student. She said that the village made special plans to embrace start-ups and develop cultural industries and that she was attracted to the beautiful scenery and the intricate products.

A student from Argentina said the visit to the Qingxi Old Street in Qingcun town gave her a new understanding of rural construction in Shanghai. The old street has retained its historic design while integrating modern art following the renovation and is now a scenic spot worth visiting.
