I am Viktor, from Kazakhstan. My Chinese name is 罗维胜.

In 2016, I came to NJUPT to study for my Master’s degree in Information and Communication Engineering. Through three years’ hard work, I achieved a grade-point of 4.06, and, after graduating, I received an opportunity to start my career in a big company in Nanjing, the Sunyu Information and Technology Company.

Before I came to China, I was always curious as to why China's economy was developing so fast, and what the secret could be. Therefore, I decided to come to China to find how the Chinese people have been doing it, so that I could learn from them. I call this mission “Finding my dragon”, meaning, once you have one, you can fly and overcome all the obstacles in your way, no matter what they are.

Throughout my studies at NJUPT, I learned to accept all challenges laid before me. My studies and life at NJUPT were incredibly fruitful and successful. Besides a strong academic background in Information & Communication Engineering, I was also immersed in an international environment that helped me develop a richer understanding of and respect for different cultures from all around the world.

I have striven to become the bridge of friendship between international and Chinese students. During my studies at NJUPT, I organized and participated in lots of activities alongside international and Chinese students. I was one of the hosts of the 1st NJUPT International Cultural Day, in 2018. Its theme was “Dream and Bloom" and it helped to push the Chinese and foreigners to dream and make their colorful youth bloom.

Additionally, I founded the Social Dancing Association at NJUPT. A lot of foreigners and Chinese friends joined and everyone learned how to dance together. That experience also helped to strengthen our friendship, which was so pure and romantic.

As well as learning professional knowledge and skills, I also learned the diligence and dedication of the Chinese people. I participated in teaching Chinese, as a volunteer, to the children of Lolei Village, in Cambodia, although my Chinese was far from fluent at that time. A rich life comes from giving, and it is my meaning in life to share happiness and time with others. If you want to be a giver, a compassionate person who wants to deliver light, you must first learn to be grateful. When you are grateful for the kindness around you, you can see life through a brighter lens, which, in turn, magnifies the blessings you receive every day.

Some Advice

A. To learn Chinese well.

For any person going to a specific country to live for many years, you should learn the language of that country. In the process of learning a language, time, effort, and self-discipline are essential. As long as we study every day, we will achieve good results. Of course, it is also necessary to seek help from teachers. I also believe that the best way to learn a language and integrate into the environment is to communicate with local people. After overcoming the language barrier, life will get better.

B. To actively learn about Chinese culture.

In Kazakhstan, a word will often get mentioned when we talk about China, namely Chinese Kung Fu! However, violence is not the purpose of this art. A good person should have the ability to protect their family, friends and lovers, and so I exercise and strengthen my physique. Boxing is also a smart sport. In addition to martial arts, there is a lot to Chinese culture that can be explored. I hope you too can open your eyes and experience it.

C. To cherish your studies.

The experience of studying at NJUPT is one of the best experiences of my life. It is this journey that has enriched my life, making it fuller. I hope that everyone can have the opportunity to come to China and NJUPT to study and pursue their dreams here. I can guarantee that you would not regret your choice!
