Tianjin’s local government has set up an ambitious target for the development of its aerospace industry: by 2023, Tianjin’s aerospace industry’s revenue will reach 15 billion yuan($2.31 billion), with an average annual growth rate of 10 percent. The move is to echo the city’s assignment to make its manufacturing sector an economic pillar in the next five years.

“We will focus on five key areas, such as Airbus aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, launch vehicles, satellites and super-large spacecraft, with pivots in expanding the industrial chain scale and gathering key projects, talents and innovation drivers,”said Bian Ying, deputy head of the aerospace industry of the Tianjin Industrial and Information Technology Bureau. “We will future-proof our strength and make up for previous deficiencies to help shape Tianjin into an aerospace industry base of international standards. "

Airbus aircrafts

By 2023, Tianjin will deepen cooperation with European aircraft manufacturers, especially Airbus, to coordinate efforts to build an Asian Aircraft center with a larger scale and a higher level aircraft industrial system.

Helicopters

By 2023, Tianjin will be built into an important helicopter hub for helicopter research and design, as well as their manufacturing, delivery and service in the country.

The helicopter production and manufacturing system will be further optimized to promote the mass production of AC312E helicopters, and will strengthen the final assembly process of AC352, AC332 and other types of helicopter, in an aim to achieve an annual assembly capacity of 20 aircraft.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)

By 2023, with the civil unmanned aviation pilot zone in Binhai New Area playing leading role, Tianjin will build a UAV industrialization base with industrial agglomeration, an outstanding brand, and extensive application fields.

Carrier rocket. By 2023, Tianjin will build a new generation pollution-free high-thrust intelligent launch vehicle production base, integrating rocket production, assembly and testing.

Satellites and super-large spacecraft

By 2023, a national-level large-scale spacecraft assembly and test base, and a satellite Internet intelligent manufacturing demonstration base will be established.

Over 30 companies, including Airbus Tianjin and Aerospace Long March Launch Vehicle Technology, will play leading roles in enhancing the level and development of the municipality’s aerospace industry.
