Hechi flourishes with agricultural development in H1

Since the beginning of 2021, the city of Hechi has focused on the development of its primary industry, and has witnessed satisfying results, according to the Hechi municipal bureau of agriculture and rural affairs.

In the first half of this year, the city's total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery was 13.57 billion yuan ($2.09 billion), an increase of 13.5 percent year on year, and the growth rate ranks first in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region. The added value of Hechi's primary production was 7.07 billion yuan, up 10.6 percent year on year, ranking first in the whole region.

From January to June, the city's grain and vegetable production was stable, with a grain output of 9,200 metric tons, an increase of 13.9 percent year on year, and its vegetable output reached 1 million tons, an increase of 8.1 percent year on year. The fruit industry has achieved a bumper harvest with a new fruit plantation covering 24,900 mu (1,660 hectares) and an output of 118,100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 41.9 percent. The city's forestry economy has developed steadily, with a timber extraction and transportation volume of 1.59 million cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 9.2 percent.

Hechi has vigorously developed its ecological aquaculture by transforming its fishery infrastructure in such areas as aquaculture ponds and cages. In the first half of the year, the city's aquatic products output was 34,800 tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.7 percent.

In addition, pig farming and silkworm cocoons have become the main driving forces for the growth of Hechi's primary industry output value. The city has built or rebuilt 54 pig farms with more than 10,000 pigs each, investing 10.8 billion yuan in the project. It has also promoted the construction of high-quality demonstration bases for the sericulture industry. In the first half of this year, the city's silkworm cocoon output reached 66,600 tons, an increase of 23.4 percent year on year.
