World Meteorological Center branch begins construction in CSGKC

The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area branch of the World Meteorological Center (Beijing) began construction in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City on July 28 concurrently with a meteorological scientific and technological integration and innovation platform.

With a total investment of 680 million yuan ($105 million), the project covers an area of 12,846 square meters and has a floorage of 40,400 sq m in the Scientific and Educational Innovation Zone.

The main building will be used for business exhibition, innovative research, achievement transformation, and academic exchanges, and house a carbon neutrality research institute. The annex building will have canteens, kitchens, fitness rooms and apartments for talents. Outdoor intelligent meteorological equipment and a comprehensive field for experiments and observations are also in the construction plans.

The settlement of the World Meteorological Center branch is of great importance to the precise meteorological monitoring and forecast in the Greater Bay Area and is one of the key projects in Guangdong province for 2021. It will accentuate the role of meteorology as the first line of defense in disaster prevention and reduction, said Zeng Cong, deputy director of the Guangdong Meteorological Service.
