Sanmenxia is a cultural and economic hub connecting Henan, Shaanxi and Shanxi provinces and a new industrial city built on the Sanmenxia key water control project. With great potential for market growth and economic development, the city is mainly engaged in industries of energy, coal chemical, aluminum, gold and non-ferrous metal processing, and fruit production. In 2018, Sanmenxia recorded a GDP of 152.81 billion yuan ($22.54 billion), a year-on-year increase of 8 percent, 0.4 percentage points higher than the provincial average.
