Economy

Included in China's first batch of designated coastal cities with an open economy, Yantai is expected to become an important strategic link in China's Belt and Road Initiative. In recent years, it has made remarkable economic progress. In 2018, the city's GDP roughly reached 790 billion yuan ($114.4 billion) with a year-on-year increase of around 6.5 percent. Its general public budget revenue grew by 6 percent to 63.66 billion yuan.

Yantai is the cradle of national industries. Changyu wine, Polaris watches and Tri-circle locks are renowned not just in China but all across the globe.

Many of the world's top 500 corporations have investment projects in Yantai, which has helped the city's imports and exports reach $50 billion per year. The coastal city ranks 24th in the list of China's top 100 foreign trade cities. The city introduced 105 million yuan of foreign investment in 2018. Its import and export value reached 308 billion yuan.

Administrative divisions

Yantai city governs seven county-level cities - Longkou, Laiyang, Laizhou, Penglai, Zhaoyuan, Qixia and Haiyang, one county - Changdao county, and four districts - Zhifu, Fushan, Muping and Laishan.
