Xi'an makes list of top 10 attractive cities for a good life

Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, made the list of the top 10 attractive cities for a good life, according to a survey released by China Media Group (CMG) on April 23.

The survey focused on 21 comprehensive dimension indicators such as job security, the business environment, public service capacity, livability and workability and overall public happiness.

Since 2006, household questionnaires have been provided to 100,000 Chinese households in more than 150 cities and 300 counties across the country. It is by far the world's largest survey of people's overall happiness level and job security.

The other nine places featured in the top 10 were Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Qingdao, Hangzhou, Kunming, Lhasa, Chongqing and Xiamen.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Xi'an grew 5.2 percent to more than 1 trillion yuan ($154.8 billion) in 2020, becoming the first northwestern Chinese city to surpass the 1-trillion-yuan GDP threshold.

As Xi'an has become more effective at building a first-class business environment, the number of market entities in the city has climbed to 2.43 million.

Last year, 10 academician workstations and 12 post-doctoral innovation bases were built in the city. Meanwhile, more than 1,500 national high-tech enterprises were launched.

Xi'an has also given priority to the prevention and control of smog in the battle against pollution. A historic breakthrough in air quality was made in 2020, with severely polluted air eliminated for the first time.

In addition, as a well-known historical and cultural city at home and abroad, Xi'an currently has 157 museums with a collection of more than 2.02 million cultural relics. The city also boasts the famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses, Huaqing Palace, Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Datang Everbright City.
