*This website is for all international applicants to Shanghai Normal University (SHNU). You can apply for short-term programs, language programs, Shanghai International Student Pre-college (SISP) program and degree programs. Before you start your application, please make sure that you have got all information regarding the program you are going to apply for. Please visit http://iao.shnu.edu.cn/ for the details of all programs.

The following online application guide is for your reference.

Online Application Guide

1 Register

Open the application website and register an account with your e-mail. IE10 or Chrome browser is recommended for the registration. Applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail upon finishing registration and should click the link in the e-mail to activate their account.

2 Log in

3 Click "New Application"

4 Agree to the regulations

Please read through the application info with due attention, choose "I have read and agree to the regulations" and click "NEXT".

5 Choose the program you are going to apply for

The programs you can choose are listed below. Please make sure you select the right category.

1. Preparatory Students

For all SISP applicants. (SISP provides scholarships to outstanding applicants.)

2. Language Students

For all long-term language program students (6 months or more).

3. Undergraduates

For all undergraduate program applicants

4. Graduates

For all master degree program applicants

5. Doctorate Graduates

For all doctorate program applicants

6. Exchange Students

For all exchange program with partner universities

Online Application Procedures

Step 1 Choose the language of instruction, study duration and major

Language of instruction: Chinese or English

Study Duration: It is related to the program you will apply for. Please make sure you have the right info.

For all graduate programs, the study duration depends on the major and program category. Please refer to the program list for graduate studies at SHNU.

Step 2 Basic Information

Please fill in these items as required. Items with a * mark are mandatory. Having a WeChat account will be helpful for later updates and interview details. We will arrange interview schedules after the application period. Details will be sent to applicants via email or WeChat.

Step 3 Education Background and Employment Background

Please fill in these items as required. Please enter the duration in the required format: (yyyy-mm-dd）

Educational background and working background — this step needs to be complete and coherent. If you cannot fill in all the information on the system, you can send us the relevant information you want to add with your application number by email after completing the online application.

Step 4 Language Proficiency

Please fill in these items.

Step 5 Permanent Address and Address to Receive Admission Documents if Admitted

After double-checking all your information, please click the "Submit" button to submit your application. We will review your application as soon as possible. Please check your email regularly and log in to our online application system to check the application status.
