Requirements

Non-Chinese citizen in good health and with a valid passport

Above 18 years old, high school graduate or above

For Science or Engineering programs, applicants must have qualified in mathematics and physics in high school.

For Economics or Management programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics in high school.

Note: According to regulations released by the Ministry of Education, China, if parent(s) was (were) a Chinese citizen settled in a foreign country at the time the applicant were born, applicants must have obtained their current foreign citizenship before April 30, 2017. In addition, the applicant must have lived outside China for at least 2 years during the period between April 30, 2017 and April 30, 2021. Emigrants from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan applying as international students must have obtained their current foreign citizenship before April 30, 2017. In addition, the applicant must have lived outside China for at least 2 years during the period between April 30, 2017 and April 30, 2021.

Language ability

Language ability:

HSK 4 above 180 for Chinese Language (BA), and Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BA);

HSK 5 above 180 for Science or Engineering; Economics or Management&Art

HSK 5 above 210 for Humanities

HSK Exemptions:

The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the HSK:

Native speaker of Chinese;

The previous degree is fully taught in Chinese and has gained certificate

English-taught programs:

1. Native speakers of English

2. I ELTS 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 90 or above received within the recent two years(TOEFL MyBest™ Scores accepted)

3. The previous degree is fully taught in English.

Academic Requirement

1. High school graduate, GPA 3.0 or above(Note: 4-Point GPA System)

2. For Science or Engineering programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics and physics in high school.

3. For Economics or Management programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics in high school.

4. For Arts programs, applicants are required to submit the portfolio.

Application Materials (PDF or JPG form, etc)

A clear copy of your valid passport with your name, photo, birth date, place of birth, date of issue, date of expiry;
Visa page is required for applicants who are not in their home country.

ID Photo

Recent (within six months), bareheaded, full-face, blue-color background, one-inch certificate photo (390*570), no landscape photos or photos of daily life; in JPG format, less than 100K.

Selfie Video

A video including self-introduction and study plan in China shot by the applicants (within 50M, avi, mov, mp4 all accepted); The language of the video is up to the medium of instruction in the selected major (English or Chinese).

Highest Degree Certificate and Official Transcripts

The official certificate and transcripts are those that bear the facsimile signature of the registrar and seal of the issuing institution. If the originals are not in Chinese or English, they must be translated and notarized;

*For applicants who haven’t graduated, pending graduation certificate and transcripts available till the application date are also acceptable. Official graduation certificate and transcripts of all grades shall be submitted immediately after being received.

Language Proficiency Certificate

If the score sheet is not available at the time of application, applicants may upload a screen shot of your scores. But the original score sheet is required when registration.

Study Plan or Research Proposal in China

Written in English or Chinese (according to the teaching language of the program), including research achievements so far (e.g. title and abstracts of graduation thesis or published paper), reasons of choosing SHU, study and research plan, future career plan, etc.

Applicants for art majors should provide at least two examples of artworks; music majors’ applicants should provide audios and videos related to the major.

Please Note:

1. Documents not in Chinese or English should be accompanied with translations from notaries or issuing departments.

2. During application, you only need to upload the scanned documents, but the original documents should be provided for reference at registration.

3. For any applicants who cannot get a Certificate of No Criminal Record at from their home country, please sign the No criminal record Commitment with Shanghai University (You can download it at http://apply.shu.edu.cn).

Application and Admission

1. Shanghai University Security and Background Check (SBC) for International Students
The purpose of the SBC is to check whether the applicant’s personal condition is appropriate to enter the university. It includes questions about the applicant's personal life, education background and physical health. Please answer truthfully as the results will be recorded by university.

2. University Qualification Assessment (UQA) for International Students
The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate whether international students are ready to enter Shanghai University for degree programs and it is only compulsory for individual international applicants of degree programs.

The test is taken in the system: http://apply.shu.edu.cn and results will be taken as an important reference for admission.

3. Telephone Interview
After SBC and UQA, the recruitment staff will organize a telephone interview. The interview language is up to course teaching language and time length is 10-15 minutes.

4. Tuition Deposit Payment
All applicants of degree programs must pay the tuition deposit RMB 5000 after receiving the E-admission notice within 20 working days. If the payment is not completed after 20 days, the application will be regarded as abandoned. Those who obtain a scholarship will be refunded the deposit payment after registration.

Note:  

1. The tuition fee and tuition deposit for the programs of SILC Business School (SILC) should be paid to the bank account of SILC Business School (SILC).

2. The application fees are not refundable whether admitted or not. For information about the tuition deposit payment please refer to the attached Policies on Tuition Deposit Payment for Shanghai University International Students.
