The Guizhou Provincial Museum was completed in 1958 and moved to its present site in 2013. Designed in harmony with modern surroundings, the building includes an east, west and central wing. The east wing mainly hosts temporary exhibitions and showcases intangible cultural heritage paintings and photography. The most essential part of the museum, the central wing is the venue for permanent displays that present the colorful ethnic culture and historical development of Guizhou. The west wing serves as the administrative area.
The museum has taken ownership of more than 80,000 collections items through decades of endeavor. Distinguished treasures of the museum, the costumes and silver accessories of the Miao ethnic group outnumber other such collections in China. Paleontological fossils and relics from the Paleolithic Age are also worth coming to see in the museum.
