Total retail sales of consumer goods in the coastal city of Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, grew by 43.9 percent year-on-year to 50.7 billion yuan ($7.73 billion) in the first two months of this year, ranking first in the province, according to statistics released by the city's commerce bureau.

This increase is due to the city's continuous efforts to stimulate consumption.

Official data show that a total of 33 enterprises have issued a combined 64.63 million yuan in consumption coupons.

Driven by increased consumer demand during the Spring Festival holiday, foodstuffs such as oils, cereals, vegetables, fruits, and eggs generated 2.55 billion yuan in retail sales, up 23.6 percent year-on-year, while clothing, hats, shoes, and fabrics generated 6.28 billion yuan, growing 93.1 percent year-on-year.

Consumption in the auto sector increased 83.1 percent year-on-year to 6.05 billion yuan, and new energy vehicles saw 535 million yuan in retail sales, up 255.5 percent year-on-year.
