Hechi's Yizhou lays groundwork for agricultural success in Q1

Hechi's Yizhou district has laid the groundwork for the success of its agricultural sector in the first quarter of 2021 as it has devoted efforts to key works like sugarcane planting, mulberry garden nursing, and spring sowing planting.

Yizhou has completed a total autumn and winter sowing area of 8,295.9 mu (553.1 hectares), with a year-on-year increase of 177.92 percent.

A total of 104,600 mu spring sowing area has been finished, with 210,000 kilograms of early season rice seeds and 240,000 kg corn seeds being prepared.

The vegetable planting area in the district was 53,900 mu as of February, showing a 2.47 percent increase year-on-year. Its vegetable output was 110,100 metric tons, with a year-on-year increase of 3.19 percent.

The overall area of production bases providing vegetables all year round in Yizhou has topped 1,036.5 mu.

Initiatives like offering subsidies and rewards for planting improved varieties have been taken by Yizhou to develop distinctive industries, such as the sugar industry.

Yizhou has squeezed 694,500 tons of sugarcane and produced 84,600 tons of sugar during the production season, generating an overall output value of 452.61 million yuan ($70.07 million), up 1.9 percent year-on-year.

Currently, the total planting area of sugarcane in Yizhou has reached 261,000 mu.

Online training, as well as on-site guidance and demonstration have been adopted to help farmers solve problems in mulberry garden care and fruit planting. Yizhou now has 377,500 mu in mulberry gardens and 131, 500 mu in fruit planting area.

Construction of major agricultural projects have been pushed forward, with the district now clustering two county-level demonstration bases and 16 township level demonstration bases, covering an overall area of 6,500 mu.
