Consumption spikes in Xi'an over Spring Festival holiday

During this year's Spring Festival holiday from Feb 11-17, Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, achieved sales of about 18.54 billion yuan ($2.87 billion).

Retail sales reached 17.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent, and catering revenue saw a year-on-year increase of 8.2 percent to 1.14 billion yuan.

Major shopping malls and supermarkets in Xi'an actively carried out various promotional activities to attract customers and stimulate consumption while adhering to COVID-19 prevention and control measures.

During the seven-day holiday, 11 of the city's 14 general merchandise enterprises achieved positive growth, and seven of the 13 key supermarkets achieved positive growth.

The city also launched the Spring Festival Online Shopping Festival, guiding more than 300 companies to provide online purchase services for the public to stimulate consumption.

Many time-honored restaurants, folk-custom scenic spots, shopping malls and food streets held events, such as customized Chinese New Year's Eve dinners and marketing activities.
