The Guangzhou Development District Offshore Innovation Center in Heidelberg has served as a significant platform for international exchange, industrial matchmaking, project and talent attraction and scientific and technological sharing between China and Europe.

The center began operation in March 2020, working towards GDD's international development and business attraction, especially in life sciences, information technology and artificial intelligence.

To that end, it has invited German experts to inspect GDD's business environment, and organized large promotions for GDD in Germany. It has reached out to leading German enterprises such as SAP and BASF in an effort to bring in high-quality projects to Huangpu.

The facility has cooperated with German universities and research institutions in technological transformation and talent exchanges. These include Heidelberg University, German Cancer Research Center, and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.

In addition, the Guangzhou Development District Offshore Innovation Center has also established connections with Heidelberg's government departments, industrial federations, and enterprise clusters, laying a solid foundation for the introduction of high-end foreign-funded enterprises and talents.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the center has cooperated with SCI Group to host two cloud conferences – in July and September 2019 – aimed at promotion and exchanges in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's biomedicine industry.
