Tianjin students plunge into New Year's traditions

Tianjin University organized a series of celebrations for foreign teachers and students on Thursday to celebrate Xiaonian, the Minor New Year in the Chinese lunar calendar.

Professional calligraphers taught foreign students to write the character fu, meaning auspicious, along with Spring Festival couplets, a traditional custom.

The foreign students also learned other customs, including paper cutting for window decorations.

Nzuepaze Tioua Nelly Ornella from Cameroon, an undergraduate majoring financial management at Tianjin University, said the most fascinating activity of the day was the cultural exchange party organized by the School of International Education at the university.
