The Polaris intelligent horologes system developed by Yantai Horology Research Institute Co won the bid for the 2020 Beijing Winter Olympics with its advanced techniques and excellent quality.

The system has been applied to the construction of some Winter Olympics projects such as the National Alpine Ski Center, the National Bobsleigh and Tobogganing Center and the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway.

Since the opening of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway on Dec 30, 2019, the Polaris horologes system has been used by the railway all year round, benefitting more than 6.8 million passengers.

The Yantai Horology Research Institute Co is one of the wholly-owned subsidiaries of the State-owned Yantai Polaris Holdings Limited Company.

The history of Yantai's watch and clock industries can be traced back to the early 20th century. In 1915, Li Dongshan, an industrialist born in Weihai, Shandong province, invested in the acquisition of German equipment and opened the Baoshi Clock Factory - the first modern clock factory in China - on Chaoyang street of Yantai.

After more than 100 years of development, Yantai has become one of the largest R&D centers and production bases of watches and clocks. It is home to several famous watch and clock brands such as Polaris and Chijiu (which means long-lasting).
