Wuxi maintains steady economic growth in 2020

Wuxi saw its per capita disposable income of residents grew by 5 percent yearly to reach 57,589 yuan ($8,915) last year, ranking third in East China's Jiangsu province, the local statistics bureau reported on Jan 28.

The gross domestic product (GDP) of Wuxi totaled 1.237 trillion yuan in 2020, an increase of 3.7 percent year-on-year.

Statistics showed that the city's economic growth was empowered by its strong manufacturing industry. The annual output value of its industrial economy grew by 6.3 percent year-on-year in 2020, while the annual output value of its high-tech manufacturing industry above designated size increased by 14.6 percent year-on-year.

In 2020, the added value of the city's industries above designated size reached 396.88 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.6 percent. From January to November last year, the operating income of the service industry above designated size grew by 8.8 percent year-on-year to reach 106.122 billion yuan.

The total output of grain in 2020 reached 508,600 tons, of which, the output of summer grain was 131,100 tons and the output of autumn grain was 377,400 tons. The total output of vegetables reached 1,298,800 tons, an increase of 3.6 percent year-on-year. The total output value of the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery industry grew by 1.5 percent to reach 20.99 billion yuan.

In 2020, 61,000 enterprises newly registered in Wuxi, a year-on-year increase of 24.4 percent. The total profits of industrial enterprises above designated size rose by 7.2 percent yearly, amounting to 126.395 billion yuan.

The city's total import and export volume decreased by 5 percent year-on-year to reach $87.785 billion in 2020, ranking second in the province. The actual use of foreign capital in 2020 was $3.621 billion.

In 2020, the contribution rate of tertiary industries accounted for 52.5 percent of the city's total economic growth, an increase of 1 percent from the previous year.
