Wuxi tops Jiangsu in rural revitalization rankings

Wuxi ranked first in the comprehensive ranking of districts and cities in East China's Jiangsu province for rural revitalization in 2020, according to the provincial rural work meeting held on Jan 20.

Jiangyin and Yixing, prefecture-level cities of Wuxi, both ranked in the first grade of the comprehensive ranking of towns in the province.

In 2020, Wuxi achieved a series of outstanding results in promoting its rural revitalization strategy. The city became a pilot city for taking the lead in realizing agricultural and rural modernization. It was also recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs as a leading city to realize the mechanization of main crop production.

Moreover, the city fully completed the tasks of food production, pig supply guarantee, and the Yangtze River basin policy. The income ratio of urban and rural residents has shrunk to 1.81:1. Among the 100 agricultural parks that will be built by 100 enterprises, 32 have been completed. Rural houses in 107 towns have also been rebuilt.

In addition, Mashan Yangmei was granted an Agro-product Geographical Indication by the country's agricultural department last May. Two villages won the title of "2020 China Beautiful Leisure Countryside" and three were listed as national key villages for rural tourism.

Officials from the local agriculture and rural affairs bureau said that as 2021 marks the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Wuxi will continue to prioritize the development of agriculture and rural areas, as well as implement the strategy of rural revitalization with greater efforts. It will also work on the high-quality development of modern agriculture, the construction of beautiful rural villages, rural reforms, talent cultivation, as well as the integrated development of urban and rural areas.
