Overview of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area

Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area is also called Beijing E-Town. It is the only national-level economic-technological development area in Beijing and an important window for reform and opening up of the capital city.

April 1992  Construction officially began.

August 1994  Approved by the State Council as a national-level economic-technological development area.

August 2002  Approved by the State Council to expand by 24 square kilometers to cover a total area of 46.8 square kilometers.

January 2010  Beijing Municipal Committee and People's Government authorized BDA to develop and manage 12 square kilometers of land for industry-related use in Daxing District, which increased the area administered by BDA to 59.6 square kilometers.

January 2019 Pursuant to the strategic layout of Beijing Municipal Committee and government, BDA undertook the construction project of E-Town, a newly developed area of 225 square kilometers.

Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area is located in southeast Beijing. To its east lies the Beijing sub-center and south the Xiongan New Area. It is strategically located in the critical industry corridor between Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei and spans the rail link between Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Daxing International Airport Thriving industry clusters have been formed after 27 years of development.

Four key industries lead the way in innovation, namely the next-generation IT, high-end automobiles and new-energy vehicles, biotech, health and wellness, as well as robotics and smart manufacturing.

The area brings together more than 26,000 corporations from over 40 countries and regions with a total investment of exceeding $100 billion.

Mercedes Benz, GE, Bayer and altogether over 90 Fortune 500 companies have invested in more than 130 projects.

Since 1994, BDA has seen an average annual growth of 30 percent in its GDP, 40 percent in its total industrial output, and 50 percent in its fiscal revenue.

BDA has been pursuing green development by enforcing the most stringent standards regarding input-output ratio, energy consumption, water consumption, pollutant discharge, etc.

The only national-level green industrial park in Beijing is built in BDA.

Chosen as a pilot area for "zero-waste city" program, the only representative among national economic-technological development areas.

The first area in Asia to use rubber asphalt on city roads covering one million square meters.

The first in the nation to create a centralized demonstration zone for green industrial construction with all new projects assessed 2-star or above by the standard for green industrial construction.
