Children in remote areas, as well as those from special schools in China, will receive bags and painting tools free of charge, as part of a nonprofit event to inspire their imagination and creativity.

The activity, co-organized by the China Children and Teenagers' Fund and Italian candy brand Alpenliebe, kicked off in Shanghai in late December, while children were invited to paint on or decorate white bags with guidance from adults.

Organizers said the activity was also held in Shijiazhuang of Hebei province, Chengdu of Sichuan province, and Wuhan of Hubei province, and will expand to more regions in China. The nonprofit event will benefit children from both urban and rural areas, as well as those with physical or psychological disabilities, to promote children's education in creativity among the public, they said. Some of their artworks will be displayed in photos.

Hans Peter Edelbluth, managing director of Perfetti Van Melle in China, which owns Alpenliebe, said that the creativity of children should be encouraged and seen. Even in some remote areas and special schools, their creativity should not be neglected, he said.

Alpenliebe also released its new product at the event in Shanghai. A 35-year-old candy brand, it sells its goods to about 30 countries around the world.
