Shanghai-based Renji Hospital Affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University will support the construction of SK Hynix's hospital project in Wuxi, according to a deal signed in Wuxi National Hi-tech District (WND) on Dec 2.
According to the deal, medical experts and experienced doctors from Renji Hospital will be introduced to the SK Hynix Wuxi Hospital to provide consultations and perform surgery on patients and train local doctors.
In 2018, South Korea-based semiconductor manufacturer SK Hynix signed to spend around 3.8 billion yuan ($579 million) establishing a medical complex in WND, providing medical treatment and talents cultivation for people in surrounding areas.
Officials said the project secured a site last October and final designs will be finished by the end of this year. The total project will be built in three phases, with a hospital and a medical education center expected to open in 2023.
The hospital will include several medical centers involving minimally invasive surgery, the treatment of tumors and dialysis treatment.
The medical education center will be jointly developed with IRCAD, a France-based research and education institute.
On completion, the center will use its European counterpart as a structural blueprint, making it possible for Chinese surgeons – without going abroad – to get familiar with laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery and develop high-level skills through training by international experts.
