Wuxi launched a new international innovation center for micro-nano systems on Dec 6, during a summit on next generation electronic information materials and devices.

With total investment exceeding 1 billion yuan ($153 million), the innovation center is sponsored by Southeast University and will carry out research and development on integrated circuits, MEMS sensors, flexible electronics, new materials, analysis and characterization.

Eight academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering were hired as members of the strategic advisory committee of the center during the summit.

The summit was organized by Southeast University and the National Technical Committee 279 on Nanotechnology of Standardization Administration of China and focused on low-dimensional material applications and standards.

During the summit, experts from universities, enterprises, governments, and research institutes discussed how to promote the integration of government, industry and research and participate in the formulation of domestic and foreign standards around the application of new semiconductor materials in the next generation of electronic information devices.

Wuxi is working to become China's main integrated circuit cluster area and a highland of integrated circuit industry worldwide by increasing R&D investment, gathering enterprises engaged in the industry and training high-end talent working in the industry, according to Wuxi Party Chief Huang Qin.
