German industrial supplier Bosch Group launched its first Chinese innovation and software research and development center in Wuxi Economic Development Zone on Nov 19.

The new 5,000-square-meter R&D center will strengthen Bosch's innovation and software development capabilities in China and work to develop technical solutions for the local Chinese market, according to the company.

The center will focus on developing embedded software, cloud and internet of things solutions, artificial intelligence, and big data for use in fields such as intelligent and connected transportation, travel services, smart industry and smart homes.

The center received an initial investment of more than 35 million yuan ($5.3 million) and employs about 500 software developers. According to officials, about 2,000 skilled workers are expected to work in the center by 2025.

The center combines traditional and modern Chinese design elements and integrates technology, innovation, culture and openness. The center was finished in four months' time, despite the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Xu Daquan, executive vice president of Bosch China, said that Bosch has established five subsidiaries in Wuxi due to its strong industrial base and quality business environment.

Xu added that the new center is an important part of Bosch's strategy to develop the internet of things industry.
