Aug 20: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On Aug 19, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 7 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 3 in Jiangxi province, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Shanghai municipality, 1 in Shandong province and 1 in Sichuan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 60 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,430 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 2.

As of 24:00 on Aug 19, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 2,346 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 2,148 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 198 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Aug 19, the National Health Commission had received reports of 84,895 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 79,745 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 516 confirmed cases (including 24 cases in serious condition) and 2 suspected cases. 808,715 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 16,369 were still under medical observation.

On Aug 19, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 22 new asymptomatic cases (including 21 imported cases). 15 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 7 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on Aug 19, 352 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 235 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on Aug 19, 5,118 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 4,586 in Hong Kong (72 had died and 3,779 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 486 in Taiwan (7 had died and 457 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
