Xiamen's retail sales of consumer goods rank first among sub-provincial cities

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province registered 20.8 billion yuan ($2.97 billion) in retail sales of consumer goods in June, up 6.5 percent year-on-year, according to the city's commerce department.

Statistics show that in the first half of this year, Xiamen’s retail sales of consumer goods totaled 110.5 billion yuan, ranking first among the country's sub-provincial cities.

The total value of retail goods was 17.4 billion yuan in June, up 5.7 percent year-on-year. The hotel and catering industry and other service industries also experienced a rebound.

Meanwhile, Xiamen's e-commerce sector expanded steadily during the first half of the year.

The online retail sales of trading enterprises above designated size - those with annual revenues of 20 million yuan or more - rose 16.9 percent year-on-year to 21.12 billion yuan, the growth rate 18 percentage points higher than that of the first quarter of this year.

The city's auto industry has also seen a wider recovery in recent months. Retail sales of vehicles achieved a "V-shaped" recovery, totaling 14.81 billion yuan in the first half of the year.

Additionally, brick-and-mortar stores generated retail sales of 5.72 billion yuan from January to June. Convenience stores in Xiamen have also been exploring new ways to expand their businesses to offer more convenience to consumers.
