Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone

Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone plays a key role in the economic and social development of Rugao in Nantong, Jiangsu province. It was founded in September 1992, and became one of the first 13 provincial development zones in Jiangsu province in December 1993. It became a national economic and technological development zone on January 17, 2013.

The development zone covers 150.4 square kilometers with a population of 167,500. It now has jurisdiction over 39 villages (communities) and has passed the ISO9001:2015 quality certification.

The zone is in the geometric center of the Yangtze River Delta economic circle. It is the intersection area of five national strategies: Yangtze River Delta integration, Jiangsu coastal development and construction of Shanghai Free Trade Zone, Yangtze River Economic Belt and southern Jiangsu modernization demonstration area.

It is the permanent venue of the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Congress, the Hydrogen Economy Demonstration City of United Nations Development Program, the Rugao New Energy Vehicle Characteristic Industry Base of the National Torch Program and the Hydrogen Characteristic Town of Jiangsu province.

It has won a raft of titles, such as the national science and technology business incubator, ultra-high voltage power transmission and transformation equipment production base, China's innovative demonstration base of industry-university-research cooperation, and the development zone with the most investment value in the Yangtze River Delta.

Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone unswervingly adheres to the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, and the cultivation of emerging industries.

On the basis of encouraging and supporting technological transformation, equipment upgrading and brand strengthening of traditional enterprises such as textiles and garment enterprises and longevity food, the development zone vigorously cultivates emerging industries, and strives to build an independent and controllable modern industrial system which is suitable for its own development.

According to the authoritative analysis report of Deloitte, the comprehensive business cost in Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone is only a quarter of that in Shanghai, among which office rent is about a tenth of that in Shanghai, and a fifth of that in Nanjing, Hangzhou and other places.
