Aquila, a 300,000-ton oil tanker from Greece, berthed at the Huangzeshan Port in Zhoushan on July 17.
Measuring 333 meters in length and 30.5 meters in height, the vessel is the second of its size ever to dock at the Huangzeshan Port, and its successful docking shows that the port is now operating at its maximum capacity.
Huangzeshan Port is the only port designed for oil storage and transportation in northern Zhoushan, and it is an integral part of the Zhejiang FTZ oil storage and transportation base.
Since January this year, a series of measures have been taken by local authorities to optimize the efficiency of ports so as to minimize the adverse effects of the COVID-19 epidemic on foreign trade.
In the first half of this year, Zhoushan ports handled 284 million metric tons of cargo, an increase of 7.09 percent, of which the throughput of foreign trade goods made up more than 90 million metric tons. Meanwhile, container throughput stood at 820,000 TEUs.
In June alone, cargo throughput in the city surged 9.11 percent year-on-year to 64.4721 million metric tons, the largest on record in a single month.
The cargo consisted primarily of oil, natural gas, coal, and grain.
The throughput of oil and gas stood at 61 million tons, representing an increase of 54.19 percent, while the figures for coal and grain were 13.919 million tons and 3.89 million tons, up 12 percent and 35.89 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, the throughput of metal ore amounted to 87.96 million tons, approximately the same amount as last year.
