The eastern Chinese city of Wuxi has since July 7 adopted facial recognition technology in three of its subway stations, allowing for faster exit and entry.

Instead of using tickets or swiping their smartphones, passengers simply need to smile at a screen to unlock the electric side gates. To use this service, commuters will need to register themselves at the station's customer service center.

According to Wuxi Metro, only specific passengers are currently able to enjoy this service. These individuals include people with disabilities, disabled soldiers and police officers, those who own a Jiangsu provincial certificate for donating blood, active soldiers and firefighters.

The system has been installed at side doors of the People's Hospital Station and Nanchan Temple Station on Line 1 and Meiyuan Kaiyuan Temple Station on Line 2. The system will be installed at other stations across the city in the future.

All metro stations have also created a green channel for students participating in this year's national college entrance exam, orgaokao, to ensure smooth traffic flow.
